Denny and Gladys Blood Blood's Market

Blood’s Catering & Party Rentals began in 1947 (as simply Blood’s Market), founded by Denny and Gladys Blood.  The business quickly grew, and Denny and Gladys’ son, Mike, came on board to help during his teen years, before purchasing the business in 1976.  In the early 80’s, Mike decided to expand the business to include several tents, tables and chairs, in addition to the homemade products used in their catering.  While clambakes and barbeques were their specialty then, Mike knew that he would have to expand those menus if he wanted the catering business to grow.

Selling on the GreenIn the years to follow, Mike and his wife, Donna, continued to expand the business, adding more tents, along with many other rental items to help them to become the place to go for any event needs – tables, chairs, linens, stages, dance floors, table settings, you name it!  When their son Brendon joined the business, he was committed to helping Blood’s continue to be the best in the Valley, for both rentals and catering – always taking things to the next level.

With a phenomenal chef, the Blood’s are ensuring that the food served is still made in-house, and the quality is always the best it can be – just as it was when Gladys was doing the cooking.  While they still are happy to do the old favorites, they also keep on top of current food trends, and would love to produce something spectacular for your next event.

The rental department at Blood’s is always growing, while still providing the same clean, safe, beautiful set-ups that it always has.  In 2011 the new Tidewater tent was added to the already tremendous arsenal of tents available, which quickly proved the need to make our own handmade farm tables, adding yet another dimension of style that the Blood’s are able to provide.  Whether it’s a simple backyard tent, setting up a beautiful wedding, or transforming a garage into a grand venue, Blood’s has done it, and has the products and know-how to make it happen.

Brendon & Sara

Brendon and his wife, Sara, have taken over ownership and with so much history and so many years of experience behind them, you can feel safe and content knowing that their family is helping yours.

Brendon Blood, Owner

Brendon grew up in the business, and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.  In 1996 he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America (in Poughkeepsie, NY), and has used the knowledge gained there to help expand the catering side of the business.  Brendon has served in many facets for the American Rental Association, including President of the Vermont chapter and Region One Director.  Through his experiences there he has been able to continue to find new and innovative products and services to bring to clients.

Sara Blood, Owner

Sara began working with Blood’s in 1998, first going out catering and even helping with some rentals, until finally joining the office staff to coordinate events.  Having been on both sides of the business, Sara has a clear view of what it takes to make an event a success, knows what to expect, and how to handle the unexpected.  She often attends American Rental Association events and the annual Catersource convention with Brendon, to help keep up with current trends.

Gene McCray, Executive Chef

Gene has been cooking since 1986, starting at a small inn in Middlebury, VT.  He was a chef at a variety of different locations in his younger years, before deciding to earn his Culinary Arts degree from Southern New Hampshire University.  After getting his degree Gene honed his skills at the Hanover Inn and later as head chef at IBM, and expanded his horizons as head baker at a bakery in Jeffersonville, VT.  Before coming on with Blood’s full time, Gene helped out for many years during our busiest weekends.  His broad range of experience allows us to continue to expand our offerings, and also develop custom menus for those that truly want something out of the ordinary.

Tanya Moffitt, Event Coordinator

Tanya majored in business and accounting in college, and in 1998 became an Event Coordinator for Blood’s.  In 2003, she took a break from office life to be a stay at home mom for her four boys, but continued catering events for our company for 10 years.  She returned to full time event planning in 2013.  Tanya has watched and been part of Blood’s growing over the past 40 years, being the granddaughter of Denny Blood, the original founder of Blood’s!  She loves her job and it shows by the care and expertise that she puts into every event.

Jennifer Perkins, Event Coordinator

Jen came to Vermont in 2002, and started out working in the beauty industry.  When her children were born, she was able to stay home for 10 years with them, until they were finally all in school!  Jen worked as a coordinator for a reading program with our local school, but really wanted to get back to working with the public.  After working for over two years on Blood’s catering crew, putting the perfect finishing touches on our events, she was hired on to be an Event Coordinator.

Scott Fraser, Rental Manager

Scott has been with Blood’s since 2003, and after a brief hiatus into the banking industry, realized that he is truly a “tent guy”. Those in the business will tell you that some people are made for this job, and Scott is one of them! His attention to detail shows in everything that he and his crew does, and his leadership skills help to make sure that each event is done efficiently and safely. Scott’s problem solving skills are some of the best, and allow every event to be as stress-free as possible for our clients!
